I purchased my first home as a newlywed, returning from my third deployment to Iraq—just months before the Southern California housing market collapsed. My wife and I had poured everything into that home, building it as a dream retreat and a smart investment. What followed was far from what we expected—but it became one of the most valuable learning experiences of our lives, early on.

Nearly twenty years later, we’ve put down roots in coastal North Carolina after years of moving across the country and around the world while raising our two incredible children. That first homeownership experience taught me what wasn’t done well. But when we eventually settled in North Carolina, we experienced what the right real estate agent can truly do.
